Tekko 1/2 announces guests

PITTSBURGH, PA - OCT. 4, 2008 - Tekkoshocon, Inc., the organization behind Western Pennsylvania's annual TEKKOSHOCON Japanese animation & culture convention, is pleased to present TEKKO 1/2, a one-day event at the Best Western Parkway Center Inn from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM on October 4th, 2008.

TEKKO 1/2, which had been hosted previously at the Carnegie Library's main branch in Oakland, is being relocated to accommodate its growth in size and scope. The event, which started as a registration drive augmented by a handful of side attractions, has grown into a full day's worth of programming, incorporating panels, workshops, a costume competition, video game room, and dance.

Admission to the 12-hour event is $10 at the door. Attendees to TEKKO 1/2 will be able to register for TEKKOSHOCON 7 (to be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh, PA, April 3-5 2009) at a special discounted rate.

Carrie Savage is a veteran of the anime convention circuit, where fans know her as the voice of "Mokona" in Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, "Hakufu Sonsaku" in Ikki Tousen, and "Sayoko" in The Melody of Oblivion. When not serving the anime community, she can be found on missions to third world countries to improve the lives of less fortunate children and adults.

Uncle Yo is a stand-up comic catering to the tastes of the "geek" community in all its multitudinous forms. Armed with his giant 20-sided die, Uncle Yo comes to TEKKO 1/2 prepared to lay plain the the idiosyncrasies of whatever gathering of nerds he happens to find himself in, and potentially sell them a few copies of his CD album, "They Never Told Me Not To."

Battlecake is a five-piece instrumental band from Carnegie Mellon University that mainly plays covers of popular video game music. The band is comprised of Sam Chien (Guitar), John Lee (Guitar), Adam Lederer (keyboard), Eugene Kang (Bass), and Tedo Salim (Drums). The band was originally formed in the spring of 2008 by John and Eugene, the other members joining over the following summer. Since that time, Battlecake has built an extensive repetoire of songs from games such as Final Fantasy V, Chrono Trigger, Tetris, and, of course, Super Mario Bros.
