New York Comic Con launches CBLDF donation drive

Norwalk, CT, December 21, 2006: Continuing its commitment to building the comics business, the New York Comic Con is proud to announce its 2007 Comic Book Legal Defense Fund Donation Drive! From now until February 21, all attendees and professionals registering for NYCC will have the opportunity to support the CBLDF's First Amendment legal work when they sign up for the show at newyorkcomiccon.com.

"We want New York Comic Con to be an important institution for the comics business," explains Greg Topalian, "So in addition to putting together the best show we can for our attendees, we also want to give back to the comics business, and there's no organization that does more for comics than the CBLDF. Their ongoing commitment to defending Free Speech rights in the comics field continues to make an important difference, and we're proud to make them our charity of choice."

NYCC continues to grow as it approaches showtime, with double the floor space, more guests, and expanded programming over the 2006 show. CBLDF supporters among the show's guests include Jeff Smith, George Perez, Peter David, Kyle Baker, Kevin Smith, and Greg Horn, with more being added every day.

"We couldn't ask for a better partner than the New York Comic Con to kick off our year's fundraising efforts," says CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein. "Right now we are preparing to go to trial to defend Georgia Retailer Gordon Lee, a case that has already cost us over $70,000. While defending Gordon's rights, we are also expanding our education tools for retailers and librarians, to help defend graphic novels and manga as they reach a broader audience. To do all this important work, we need to raise all the funds we can muster. This donation drive is a great way to help us achieve those goals. We are very grateful to the New York Comic Con team for all the work they're putting in to support the Fund."

Meanwhile, convention officials would like to remind everyone not to forget their favorite comic or anime fan this holiday season! New York Comic Con tickets make great gifts! You can buy eTickets online now at www.nycomiccon.com and have printable ticket confirmations for last minute presents.
