Metrocon guests and events announced

TAMPA BAY, FL, April 19, 2006 METROCON is pleased to announce a new event at Florida's Largest Anime Convention The Fantasy Masquerade. Formal ballroom dances have always been a tradition at METROCON and this year is no exception. Moving in a new direction, the theme of The Fantasy Masquerade is based on Fantasy oriented Fairy Tales and not a specific continuous show or game. Each year METROCON will be taking a Fairy Tale, reworking it, and retelling it based on popular anime and video game series. The interactive story, told throughout the entire evening by a cast of characters, will range from being on stage, to out in the audience, and to video footage. Expect the Masquerade's use of characters/shows/games to change quite a bit from year to year as we use the best ones that fit the story that will be told.

Since this is a formal dance, METROCON recommends an Exotic mask with a Tuxedo, an Evening gown, Vintage Costume, or some type of formalwear (the minimum dress code is something you would wear to a nice event: shirt and tie or ). Costumes are welcome but since this is a formal dance, it would be interesting to see formal versions of anime/videogame costumes. Masks are required for entry into the Fantasy Masquerade. For those of you without masks, standard ones may be purchased for a small fee outside of the ballroom.

We hope you will join us in making this night a memorable one!

TAMPA BAY, FL, April 19, 2006 The Anime Human Chess Match debuted at METROCON in 2004 and has taken the anime community by storm, with similar events staged at anime conventions around the nation. This live event is a unique fusion of renaissance fair combat chess and a scripted cosplay involving anime characters from multiple shows.

Over 1200 people attended the match last year and this event has proven so popular that, due to space limitations, not everyone has had the chance to see it live. To this end, METROCON is pleased to announce that there will be TWO (2) full performances during the convention weekend. One performance will be on Saturday, June 3 and the second one on the next day, Sunday, June 4. This will hopefully ensure that everyone who wants to see the fun live can do so.
